The short version
Open ByeFeed → Settings → tap your email address under Account → Delete account.
If Settings shows No account attached instead, tap it and choose Clear data.
Both delete your account and its cloud backup immediately. Neither cancels a Google Play subscription; cancel that in the Play Store.
Do you have an account?
ByeFeed works without an account, so it is worth checking first. Four things are easy to mix up:
- Having the app installed creates nothing on our servers by itself.
- Having data on your phone. Your block groups, settings and statistics live in the app’s private storage on your phone, whether or not you have an account. Uninstalling the app or clearing its data removes them. This data is not an account.
- Being signed in means the app on this phone is connected to an account. You can only be signed in to an account that exists.
- Having an account means a record exists on our servers, identified by an Account ID and holding your cloud backup. One is created only when you create an account with email and password, sign in with Google, or redeem an unlock code while signed out. Choosing Continue without an account during setup creates nothing.
What Settings → Account shows
Open ByeFeed, go to Settings and look under Account. You will see one of these three rows:
1 · Not signed in
You are not signed in on this phone. If you have never created an account or signed in with Google, you have no account, and there is nothing about you on our servers to delete. To remove ByeFeed’s data from your phone, uninstall the app or clear its data in Android’s settings.
Signed in before, on this phone or another one? That account still exists. Sign in and follow the steps for email or Google accounts, or ask us.
2 · Account with no email
You have an account, one with no email address or password on it. It was created when you redeemed an unlock code while signed out, and it holds a cloud backup of your setup. Tap the row to open its account page, which shows its Account ID:
(That ID is an example; yours is different.) Follow Accounts with no email.
3 · Email or Google account
You have an account and are signed in. Your email address is shown partly hidden. Tap it: the account page says Email & password account or Signed in with Google. Follow the matching steps below.
About the Account ID
Every ByeFeed account is identified by an Account ID, a random code created with the account (technically a UUID from our authentication service). “Account ID” is the only name the app uses for it; ByeFeed doesn’t show a “UID” or “user ID”.
- The app shows the Account ID only for accounts with no email address, because for those it is the one way to tell us which account is yours.
- Email and Google accounts are identified by their email address instead, so their account page doesn’t show an Account ID. Not seeing one doesn’t mean you have no account.
- If Settings shows Sign in, you are not signed in to any account on this phone, so there is no Account ID to show.
Email and password accounts
For an account you created with an email address and password (the account page says Email & password account):
- Open ByeFeed and go to Settings.
- Under Account, tap your email address (Manage your account).
- Tap Delete account.
- If you have a PIN protecting account deletion, enter it.
- Read Delete your account?, which lists what will be lost, and tap Continue.
- Under Confirm your email, type the full email address on the account.
- Type the word goodbye and tap Delete account.
The account is deleted at once, and ByeFeed on your phone is reset to a fresh install.
Not signed in? Go to Settings → Sign in and sign in with your email and password first. Forgotten the password? Tap Forgot password?: we email you a 6-digit code, valid for 15 minutes, and you choose a new password in the app. Can’t get into the email account at all? Ask us.
Google accounts
For an account you created with Continue with Google (the account page says Signed in with Google), the steps are the same:
- Open ByeFeed and go to Settings.
- Under Account, tap your email address.
- Tap Delete account, and enter your PIN if asked.
- Read Delete your account? and tap Continue.
- Under Confirm your email, type your Google account’s full email address.
- Type goodbye and tap Delete account.
Not signed in? Go to Settings → Sign in → Continue with Google and pick the same Google account first.
Deleting your ByeFeed account doesn’t change your Google account. To remove ByeFeed from the list of apps connected to your Google account as well, visit your Google account’s connections page.
Verification codes
ByeFeed has no passwordless or code-only sign-in. The 6-digit codes we email are used only to:
- confirm a new account created with email and password,
- reset a forgotten password, and
- confirm a change of email address.
So an account you confirmed with a code is an email and password account. Delete it with the steps above. If you don’t know the password, use Forgot password? to get a code and set a new one first. Codes expire after 15 minutes.
Accounts with no email
An account with no email address exists only if you redeemed an unlock code while signed out. You can delete it in two ways.
Option 1: Clear data (fastest)
- Open ByeFeed and go to Settings.
- Under Account, tap No account attached.
- Tap Clear data, and enter your PIN if asked.
- Read Clear your data? and continue.
- Type goodbye and tap Clear data.
This deletes the account and its cloud backup exactly as Delete account does, and resets ByeFeed on your phone. It doesn’t ask for an email address because there is none to check; the app is already signed in to the account, which is the proof. Pro from a redeemed code ends for good. A Google Play subscription isn’t cancelled, and Google Play reports it to the app again the next time you open ByeFeed.
Option 2: Add an email, then delete
On the same page, tap Add an account and add an email address or your Google account. This attaches to the account you already have, keeping the same Account ID and backup. Then follow the email or Google steps. Only worth it if you want the account tied to an address first; to simply delete it, Option 1 is quicker.
An account with no email can only be reached from the phone it was created on, and its Account ID is shown only there. If you uninstall ByeFeed or clear its data first, neither of us can easily find the account again. See Uninstalling is not deleting.
Can’t use the app? Ask us
If you can’t open ByeFeed or can’t sign in, email [email protected] with the subject “Delete my account”. So that we delete the right account and nobody else’s, include what applies to you:
- Email or Google account: send the request from the email address on the account.
- Account with no email: your Account ID. Copy it from Settings → No account attached → Account ID.
- If you bought Pro: your Google Play order number, which starts with
GPA.. Find it in the Play Store under Payments & subscriptions → Budget & history, or in Google’s email receipt. - If you redeemed an unlock code: the code and roughly when you redeemed it.
Your password, PIN, a verification code, card or bank details, or identity documents. We never need them, and we will never ask for them.
What happens next. We find the account and confirm with you that it is yours before deleting anything. If we write to the address on the account to check, please reply from it. We complete the deletion within 30 days of confirming the account is yours.
The limit. We won’t delete an account on a guess. If you have no access to the account’s email and none of the details above, we may not be able to tell which account is yours. An account with no email that we can’t identify is still deleted automatically after 90 days without activity, unless it holds Pro.
What deletion removes
Deletion takes effect as soon as you confirm, and can’t be undone. There is no way to recover the account afterwards.
When you confirm Delete account or Clear data, the app asks our database to delete your account. The account is removed straight away, and the database removes every record linked to it at the same moment. Nothing is queued for later. That means:
Deleted from our servers, immediately
- your account: Account ID, email address, password hash and Google sign-in details;
- your cloud backup: block groups, schedules, limits, protection and cooldown settings, PIN hash, redirect site, statistics counters, pause history and app labels;
- your subscription record, including the Google Play purchase token and the purchase record from Google;
- any code redemptions and redemption attempts, and your profile and any transfer tokens.
Deleted from your phone
ByeFeed is reset to a fresh install: your groups, statistics and settings are removed from the phone, and blocking stops.
Not deleted
- Your Google Play subscription. It keeps renewing and charging until you cancel it in the Play Store. Deleting your account doesn’t refund it either; see refunds.
- Google’s own records of your purchase, kept by Google under its own policies.
- Database backups made before you deleted the account. Copies of its data can remain in them until those backups expire. They are used only to recover the service, as described under Backups in the Privacy Policy.
- Emails you exchanged with us, which we keep as a record of the request.
You can create a new account at any time. It starts empty.
Uninstalling is not deleting
Uninstalling ByeFeed, or clearing its data in Android’s settings, removes what is stored on your phone. It doesn’t delete your account or its cloud backup, and it doesn’t cancel a subscription.
- Email or Google account: the account stays until you delete it. Install ByeFeed again and sign in to delete it, or ask us.
- Account with no email: uninstalling throws away the only place its Account ID is shown. Use Clear data first. If you have already uninstalled, the account is deleted automatically after 90 days without activity, unless it holds Pro. If it holds a subscription, email us your Google Play order number; if it holds a code, the code and roughly when you redeemed it.
- Subscriptions keep renewing until you cancel them in the Play Store.
For everything ByeFeed collects and how long it is kept, see the Privacy Policy.
